Why Every Investor on WealthVP Now Verifies Their Identity
Starting October 8th, 2026, every investor on WealthVP completes a short identity check with Didit. Here's why we're doing it, how it works, and what it does and doesn't mean.

Starting October 8th, 2026, every investor on WealthVP will complete identity verification to keep full access to deal flow, founder conversations, and investor networking.
We made this choice on purpose, because of the kind of network we're building. Below is what's changing, why we're doing it, and what verification does and doesn't mean.
The problem we're addressing
Investment fraud is one of the most costly forms of fraud online. The FTC reported that consumers lost $7.9 billion to investment scams in 2025.
Any network built on direct access to founders and investors will attract people who want to misuse it: impersonators, fake investor profiles, and accounts created to request money or sensitive information under false pretenses. We'd rather say that plainly than pretend it isn't a risk.
Founders on WealthVP share their decks, company details, and their time with investors they may not have met before. Investors are building reputations and relationships that take years to earn. Fake profiles put both at risk. Identity verification makes it much harder for bad actors to get in, and it keeps them from diluting the network for everyone else.
Why investors, and not founders
We're starting where the risk is concentrated. The pattern we're most focused on stopping is someone posing as an investor to gain a founder's trust, attention, or information.
In this launch, investors complete identity verification. Founders do not. If you're a founder, you don't need to do anything at this time. What you get out of it is that the investors reaching out to you on WealthVP have passed an identity check.
How verification works
We chose Didit, an identity-verification provider backed by Robinhood and Y Combinator, to run the check. It takes a couple of minutes on a phone:
- Verify a government-issued ID.
- Complete a brief liveness check, which helps confirm that a live person is present rather than a photo, screen replay, or mask.
We also wanted a provider that treats sensitive data with the seriousness it deserves. Didit's published materials list SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certifications, and Didit states that verification data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Didit runs the verification for WealthVP, and we use the result to protect access to the network.
Verification happens at onboarding because that's where it does the most good: it stops a fake profile before that profile can reach anyone.
What verification means, and what it doesn't
We want to be exact about this.
Verification confirms that the person behind an investor profile has passed an identity check. That is all it confirms.
It does not:
- Certify accreditation
- Confirm assets or available capital
- Confirm firm affiliation
- Indicate investment intent
- Mean WealthVP recommends, endorses, or vouches for an investor's conduct
- Replace diligence on either side
Founders should keep doing their homework on investors, and investors should keep doing theirs on companies. Verification raises the baseline for who can participate. It doesn't replace good judgment.
What existing investors should expect
If you're already an investor on WealthVP, you'll be prompted to complete verification to keep uninterrupted full access. The process is short, and if you run into any issues, our team is ready to help.
An intentional network
We built WealthVP to be an intentional, high-quality network where investors and founders can engage with confidence. That has never meant growing at any cost. It means holding everyone who joins as an investor to a clear standard.
Asking every investor to verify their identity is part of that standard. It's a few minutes for each investor, and a stronger network for everyone who relies on it. Thank you for helping us keep it that way.
